My late Uncle Charlie founded Meade Transport Company in 1977, specializing in moving pianos, organs and other oversized pieces. As a kid helping out, I was amazed to see how Charlie could maneuver these huge, bulky items up, down and around in the tight spaces of historic homes across the Boston region.
He taught me to move with brain, not brawn — strategies for hoisting, leverage and working as a team, plus how to use the special tools, ropes and knots needed to move any object in any home or business. I’ve passed these techniques on to my team, most of whom have been with me more than 12 years.
